Thomas Brazil, CMI, CMI-CIO Chief Digital & Innovation Officer, Integrated Computer Solutions (ICS) Chief Innovation Officer, RedTeam Engineering (ICS Joint Venture) Board of Directors, IAOIP Tom Brazil is the Chief Digital & Innovation Officer of Integrated Computer Solutions (ICS), Inc. Tom is a Certified Manager of Innovation (CMI), a Certified Chief Innovation Officer, and a board member of the International Association of Innovation Professionals (www.iaoip.org). He joined ICS as their Chief Digital & Innovation Officer in 2016. Tom is also the Chief Innovation Officer and Innovation Council co-chair of the ICS Joint Venture, Red Team Engineering (RTE – www.redteamengineering.com), and inventor of the Functional Value of Innovation (FVOI) algorithm which provides objective, automated methods of prototype evaluation. In 2019 he became an ANSI-appointed member of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) representing the United States on the ISO Technical Committee 279, charged with creating the ISO 56000 series of Innovation Management standards. Tom is also a Gartner© Innovation Cohort, advising Gartner Analysts on Innovation Management best practices. At ICS, Brazil Leads the ICS Labs division for Innovation Research & Development and chairs the ICS Innovation Council. The focus of ICS Labs is creating innovations in support of strengthening National Security and in support of the Warfighter. A lifelong innovator, Brazil has led technical innovation teams at multiple companies for over 2 decades. He has a long list of innovations in his portfolio, including a war-time effort of “innovating under the gun” during the first gulf war, when Congress demanded a solution to a recurring problem in-theatre, which was delivered within two weeks and earned his employer at the time, Unisys, a congressional letter of appreciation. He is the author of the book "Implementing an Agile Innovation Management System" and a contributor to the renowned PMI expert Dr. Harold Kerzner for his book "Innovation Project Management." In 2019, Tom became a Gartner Innovation Cohort, briefing Gartner analysts on best practices in Innovation Management. His collaboration with Jackie Fenn, Creator of the Gartner HypeCycle, was captured in the Gartner research report entitled “What Does the ISO 56002 Innovation Standard Mean to You? (ID: G00463632, 20 December 2019). In 2021, Tom was asked to contribute best practices on Innovation Portfolio Management for the revised Global Innovation Science Handbook 2.0, commonly referred to as the Innovation Body of Knowledge. Tom is a frequent speaker at DoD-focused innovation and technology conferences and has consulted at 10 of the world's top 15 financial institutions. His focus is educating innovation leaders on the processes necessary to implement dynamically-adaptive innovation portfolio governance, which ensures that organizations can rapidly pivot their innovation portfolios in alignment with organizational objectives to adjust to the increasing pace of technological change.
