Jon's Summary

Jonathon A. Talcott represents clients in a broad range of complex commercial disputes and transactions. He litigates and advises on business-related matters ranging from those involving intellectual property rights to franchises, and from startups to multinational corporations. Jon’s patent litigation experience has spanned a broad range of technologies and industries such as software and hardware for the internet, financial transactions, business methods, semiconductor integrated circuits, wireless systems, networking, cybersecurity and data privacy, and medical systems. Jon’s trademark practice includes advising on branding issues, securing trademark rights from the USPTO and other tribunals, and the defense and enforcement of trademark rights before federal district courts and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also has extensive experience in the advisement and litigation of copyright issues. His clients in these areas of the law span businesses in the media, automotive, medical, sports, cosmetics, and electronic cigarette industries, among others. As a registered patent attorney, Jon regularly advises clients regarding patent and trademark prosecution and portfolio development. Jon prides himself in serving the community through his pro bono practice. Recently, he participated in the American Bar Association's Clemency Project 2014, where President Obama granted his clemency petition on behalf of a pro bono client who was a low-level nonviolent drug offender. He has also represented a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant in a lengthy court battle against the sergeant's HOA. Jon persuaded the court to vacate a judgment entered against the sergeant while he was deployed overseas, and convinced the HOA to return wages garnished under the wrongfully entered judgment. Prior to entering law school, Jon obtained a master's degree in electrical engineering and was a professional electrical engineer for a Fortune 500 aerospace and military defense company. As an engineer, he designed hardware and software circuitry, displays, and control panels for airplane cockpit and cabin entertainment electronics. He also served as a project engineer responsible for engineering teams' financial performance and obtaining FAA certification for those systems.
