Chad's Summary

I am currently the Director of IT Services/CIO for Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. Western is a small primarily liberal arts destination college located in the mountains of central Colorado (www.western.edu). In my position I am responsible for all IT services on campus. This includes physical infrastructure, student services, academic computing and administrative computing. I lead a small department of fourteen hard working professionals. Information technology is my second career which started circa 2001 when I began at Western. Before that I spent several years with the National Park Service and then at small startup biological consulting company where I became a partner and de facto CIO. Wanting to return to Colorado, in 2001 I was fortunate to get an entry level position in the Computing, Media & Telecommunications Department at what was then Western State College. Over the next ten years I worked in desktop support, supervised the Helpdesk, managed our campus learning management system, classroom A\V, computer lab management, application management, system administration and networking. I also taught classes as an adjunct for the Business Department (an experience that continues to have a strong influence on my philosophy on IT in academics). Through those ten years, I moved through progressively more responsible roles until I reached my present position, the Director of IT/CIO in January of 2010.
