Andrew's Summary

How do I look at technology differently that others? When my peers talk tech details with executives; I talk value and business capabilities. When they talk cost; I talk return on investment. When they talk about a “good product”; I talk about strategic alignment with company goals. This is the basis for how I operate an IT organization and what you receive from an executive with an MBA, MSIS, and years of practical experience. Executives and staff need to understand how technology decisions support company goals and the value a technology project is trying to unlock. Communicating that value is one of the things I do best. There are lots of people working in IT. Few can partner with business executives to create a vision for technology and then develop and execute on a strategic plan to drive business goals forward as I’ve done repeatedly in my career. While I’m a technology enthusiast I’m also careful when evaluating new technology. Google spending $1B on a new service doesn’t make it valuable for my organization. Look at block-chain as an example: though block-chain has valid use cases, 90% of early block-chain platforms were abandoned because there wasn’t a clear understanding of the value they would provide before CIOs moved forward. The lost investment is destructive but the years wasted focusing on non-strategic distractions are far more crippling. My teams evaluate and pilot new technology and move forward with solutions that best advance our core goals. My teams also adopt best practice standards for operations, focus on customer experience, and protect data and organizational assets by embedding information security. Thank you for reading. I haven’t addressed my experiencing managing budget, mentoring staff, building business cases for funding, or other accomplishments, but you'll find a partial list below. I am happy with my current role as CTO of Jefferson County. I rarely respond to requests from people I don't have any previous connection with, but feel free to reach out if you see value in our connection.
